The Jack the Ripper conference : London 2016 is pleased to announce our next speaker .

In 2005 Richard Andrew Patterson, an English Teacher, was the last delegate to speak at the Brighton Jack the Ripper conference.
His presentation of his off the wall suspect, the English poet Francis Thompson, famous for his 1888 poem ‘The Hound of Heaven,’ was some light diversion after a great weekend of serious discussions.
However, it seems that Patterson could not let sleeping dogs lie. A decade of further research, which saw him delve into archives in the UK and US and a funny thing happened.
He made news headlines around the world for his findings that Thompson, the ex-medical student, who had written about killing and disemboweling women before and after the murders, was living within a stones throw of Mary Kelly’s home, when she was killed.
Patterson is also able to now show how this poet, who was at the time seeing out a prostitute friend who had rejected him, was carrying a dissecting scalpel under his coat.
Patterson and Dr Joseph Rupp, the forensic pathologist, who first connected the dots in the 1988 article in the Criminologist, have also now joined forces. Patterson promises to give 2016 conference goers a full and intimate portrayal of this little understood suspect and reveal, just exactly, what Thompson was doing in the year 1888, Schwartz and all.
