AUSTRALIA'S STONEHENGE TALK
8 Myths About Australia’s Stonehenge.
Myth 1:
It is hidden in a remote place and looks today like it did thousands of years ago.
It is not very far away from the town of Mullumbimby. In only a few years, the growing town will have enveloped the site. In the 1940’s, it was destroyed so that all that can be seen now are the mound it stood upon and bits and pieces of the original stones, however there are detailed descriptions and maps of what it looked like, and missing photos yet to be found. Many of the original larger stones, that were taken away, have been recovered.
Myth 2:
Nobody, before Richard Patterson rediscovered it in 2013 knew about Australia’s Stonehenge.
As well as the original inhabitants, when European settlers first arrived in the 1850s they all knew about it as well as all the other stone arrangements. In the 1930s, news of it was in every major paper in the country. It was only after World War 2 after Australia’s Stonehenge and all the other stone arrangements were bulldozed that it was gradually forgotten.
Myth 3:
It is a copy of the Stonehenge in England.
Australia’s Stonehenge is much older and was almost 3 times larger than England’s Stonehenge. The one in England is most likely a replica and homage to it.
Myth 4:
A particular aboriginal tribe owns it. It is sacred only to them and it should not be talked about, and especially not by white people.
Everybody, black or white can learn about it and talk about it. Australia’s Stonehenge was built to be a gathering place of all tribes. Not just from Australia but the entire world people gathered here to learn. Aboriginal elders acted as custodians but they did not claim to own it or the land that it was upon. Anyone who claims to be the owner of the stones or that is secret business is not telling you the truth. Those Aboriginal People who can trace their lineage to this area back to the time of the arrivals of Europeans say that the area of Byron Bay was a meeting place. (Byron Bay, the nearest large town was built on what the Aboriginal People named Cavanbah, which means meeting place) Respected and acknowledged Elders tell us and have written down that It is no man’s land and cannot be claimed by anyone, and that includes no Aboriginal person. They say that keeping it secret is a desecration of it and it is our right and more importantly all our duty to understand it and share knowledge of it to the world.

Myth 5:
It was the only circle of standing stones in the region.
There were many standing stone arrangements in the same area that had Australia’s Stonehenge but it was the largest arrangement.
Myth 6:
Australia’s Stonehenge is a modern invention, created in the 1970s by New Age hippies to bring in tourists and make money.
There are maps in museums from as way back as 1893 clearly showing the existence of the mound that Stonehenge was built upon including the locations of other associated artifacts.
Myth 7:
Australia’s Stonehenge will be rebuilt and activated through a ritual that will magically heal the Earth and cause positive shift in the way people treat each other and the Earth.
Activating and restoring Australia's is the most important thing we can do and also the last. The human race is only as free as those who exist in solitary confinement in prison. We are as tolerant as the most bigoted racist. Our relationship to the Earth is as developed as the most destructive mining company. We are as healthy as the preventable stillborn child from an impoverished starving mother. We are as peaceful as the worst case of domestic violence and as sane as the most medically controlled asylum patient. All humans are as strong as the weakest. When Stonehenge is rebuilt and activated magic will have happened but well before the first stone is put back in place. The magic will be first the restoration of respect of all humans and all the land. The magic in the perfect story is that when Australia’s Stonehenge brings peace and harmony to Earth nobody will notice for peace and harmony will already be here.
Myth 8:
Now that Australia’s Stonehenge has been rediscovered, it is safe from further destruction.
The site is in real danger of disappearing altogether. Essentially all the people who cared for Australia’s Stonehenge were wiped out by 1905 by massacres, introduced diseases and removal from their land. There are simply not enough Aboriginal people to look after the site and the dozens of other sites in the area. In 2014, the site was officially listed as an Aboriginal Sacred site due to its unusual landform and artifacts found on it but nothing further has been done to restore or protect it. Today , dairy cattle trample it, vehicles drive on it, and barbed wire fences crisscross it. Every other day more and more stones go missing and are broken. As recently as 2017 a proposal was almost passed allowing the entire area to be built upon by a housing estate. It is inattention, thinking we can not discuss it, all the surrounding secrecy and refusal to hold dialogue on Australia’s Stonehenge that has always been the greatest threat to its existence.
