Australia's Stonehenge & Alternate Origin Theories
That Australia's Stonehenge was built and cared for by Australian Aboriginal People is the most widely accepted theory, The following origin theories compete against this one. They are given here for the sake of fairness and to provide different points of view. None are proven but each have believers.
The Cosmogenic Theory
The Australia's Standing Stones site is believed to have existed for many thousands of years, but some argue that the eastern coast where they are situated have been subject to comparatively recent, natural cataclysms.
It is said that natural events such as tsunamis would have destroyed the site many times over. This article explores the idea that mounds and stone arrangements were created, many times over by natural forces with the most recent a few centuries ago by a meteorite. This theory is that Aboriginal people did not create these structures and instead elected to be their custodians, to adorn them and worship them as the remains of a past people. |
Archeologist Frederic Slater translated, in 1939, the language in the arrangement and its description of how the Aboriginal people arrived in the area,
"Guided by truth, man came to earth through darkness from light of life that shines afar off.”
In the past 10,000 years at least 10 mega-tsunamis have struck the eastern coast of Australia. The history of these giant waves have been studied by Australian geomorphologist, Ted Bryant, of the University of Wollongong.
In 2001 Bryant, who had been analysing the coastal areas since the 1960s published his book "Tsunami: The Underrated Hazard". Bryant suggests that the simplest explanation for the unusual rock formations found on the East Coast is that a large tsunami struck the coastline around 1500 AD. |
In 1989, Bryant was examining regions along the New South Wales coastline and found giant boulders, some the size of shipping containers and weighing almost 100 tons, moved 33 meters above sea level. Further fieldwork found gravel dunes on a 130-meter-high headland and other massive boulders more than 100 meters inland.
|
Bryant examined coastal areas at Bass Point near Wollongong and the huge circular whirlpool features, 50 meters in diameter, carved into the rock. The outer edges of the whirlpool started to form secondary vortices ("kolks") that ripped out chunks of bedrock in a circular path.
Bryant then examined bedrock that had been savagely eroded and found that headlands carved into inverted toothbrushes, where a gap had been roughly gouged in the middle, existed from Cairns in the far northeast to Victoria in the south. |
Professor Bryant told how the sheer weight of the water would cause bubbles air itself to drill serpentine patterns into the ground up to 20 meters deep in less than a minute.
We know that if the water moves fast enough it has air bubbles in it and they’re very unstable and they instantly collapse at 30,000 atmospheres pressure and when they collapse they can just chew through solid bedrock. But the flows moving so you get these snakelike features that have been carved into the bedrock as well.

Evidence suggests that the Mahuika underwater crater, in the ocean just off New Zealand, was made by this meteorite. It is argued that the impact occurred around 1443 AD, to 1520 AD. Some evidence suggests that the resulting tsunami was observed by aborigines and entered into their mythology.
The impact of the meteor vaporized any water near it and left an impact crater in the undersea crust twenty kilometers wide and 120 meter deep. The comet is said to have struck in 300 meter deep water on the continental shelf 250km south of New Zealand at 48.38 S, 166.4 8 E. The comet was between ½ to one and half kilometers long and moving at 51 kilometers per second. The impact would have measured 8.2 on the Richter scale.

When, in the early years of the 16th century, these vast waves supposedly hit the island coastline of Australia, what would have felt like a solid, 100m high, wall, rushing at 720 kilometer per hour, and near supersonic speed, moved inland. It stirred and lifted huge boulders. as if they were pebbles. The wave washed over heights of up to 130 meters above normal sea level. To such a fluid force, boulders, rock and surface stones of many tones would be gathered from areas hundreds of kilometers away.
Byron Bay, which lies only several kilometers from the Australia's Stonehenge, is located at the easternmost point of the Australian continent. As the wave hit the eastern coastline, when it touched the headland here would have seperated the wave into two and caused both sides to continue in a westward direction but also to collapse inward toward each other and smack into each other. This force would have also brought rocks and debri rushing in from north and south.
|
The appearance of this meteor might coincide with the Aboriginal accounts of light in the sky coming to Earth. Professor Bryant, the Australian scientist, described the first views of the mega-tsunami as it hit the east coast,
‘You would see the horizon starting to lift up. And within about a minute you’d see it moving towards you. And at this headland you’d probably see a wall of water 20 metres high or more."
The collision between the outward projection of the headland was made more severe by the sudden increase in altitude of the land due to the extinct supervolcano, Mt. Warning, and its vast 100km-wide caldera, causing a steeply sloping terrain. The lack of distance between the shoreline and the mountains is notable here. Mt Warning, is so close to shore that the peak of its central one kilometer high volcanic plug, receives the first light of day, on the Australian continent.

This force would have had the capability of smash boulders together into dust. The speed of the water would have eviscerated people in a matter of the seconds, although the sheer windforce before the incoming wave would likely have first crushed them. The tsunami may have killed tens of thousands of people almost instantly.
The original name for the Byron Bay Headland was Cavanbah which mean meeting place. Its original name matches the meeting of the waves as the met the headland and twirled about it impacting together. The rushing wall of water meeting formed rapidly moving spirals, 100 meters deep, inland.

These whirlpools and secondary vortices where highly erosional, and able to cut and lift rocks in a circular path. The water-tornadoes would have been lifting, gathering and twisting rocks at near supersonic speeds causing rapidly rotating boulders to strike and glance off of each other creating sparks of plasma and stones to be sheared and broken into unusually straight edges and facets.
These undersea tornadoes, gathered together many types of stone. The spiraling water would have smashed these rocks, some the size of busses, into each other. It broke others apart or in short time wore stones, many weighing many kilograms, as smooth as pebbles.

Then the wall of water having reached the mountains would have bounced back towards the sea. As the receding wave met the vortexes they would have neutralized them causing the swirling water to cease and dissipate. This would have finally released the suspended stones, tens of meters above the ground, to dart down back toward the ground.
|
As the waters receded, new mounds of foreign soil would have formed, and the rotating water would have strewn an assorted collection of rocks into circular patterns, connected by other rocks set waving lines, made from the retreating waves. There would be seen different stones, a few weighing tones, resting, lined up at points where the monstrous incoming and outgoing titanic waves, receded and lapped. In some cases, even giant boulders, have been found in such pattern.
As expected, in a hilly country, many mounds would become decorated with circles of sharp and smooth stones, of varying type. Wavy, snaking lines of stones would connect many circles. In other places it would look like the dreamtime serpent itself had moved across the land.

The survivors of 1520 would have spoken of a bright fiery light. The friction of the atmosphere would have heated the meteor to 5000 degrees. This light many days before, seemed to come to earth. Heralding the sea’s invasion of the land. Most would recall it as seeing a sign, containing knowledge of a kind of Armageddon and new world.
If the product of the New Zealand meteor is these giant stone circles, then connecting them to the Pleiades is not far from the truth. They were, truly, celestially caused. Other Tsunamis that struck the eastern coast were mostly formed by the slow drift of the of continents upon the magma beneath and the falling of continental shelves.
The creation and destruction of stone circles in the area may have occurred continuously every thousand or so years.
Then, until the coming of Europeans, about three centuries later, these strange structures stood. With all the stones poking out seemingly magically from the long grass, of treeless hills. There is little wonder that the culture that grew out of all this, revered these places. They may have adopted them for use in ceremonies for they markers for great truth and power, containing wisdom in lessons concerning humankind’s power and frailty. All this preserved in these ‘alien’ crops of stone circles.

A Hoax from the 1930's
The Great Depression is the name for a worldwide economic collapse that began in 1929 and ended in the late 1930's. In Australia, it brought unemployment rates to 32 percent, caused businesses to collapse mass homelessness and widespread poverty.
The 1930s was also a time when the archeology of Ancient Egypt was very popular. Discoveries of ancient treasures such as the rooms filled with gold in Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. Captured the public's imagination. They even gave it a name, Tut-Mania.
Australia, to European settlers seemed empty of any ancient ruins or hidden tombs of kings. Ignorance of the original people meant that the settlers thought that they had come to a new world without any history. Settlers looked fondly to other lands such as Europe and the Middle East with its temples, castles, and magnificent monuments. |
The township of Mullumbimby, near where the mounds of Australia's Stonehenge is located, was particularly hard hit by the depression. This was because it coincided with a disease that destroyed most of the banana plantations which was the main food crop and source of income. It was a desperate time in which people struggled to make sure there was enough food to feed their families.
Under these stressful conditions it is possible that one of the farmers decided to build a fake ancient ruin hoping that he could make money from the interest and publicity. It might not be a coincidence that that the only farmer in the region who first had the machinery, the tractors and graders, to move large stones was also the farmer whose land Australia's Stonehenge was found on.
|
Australia's stonehenge may have been built in the 1930's, as a distraction from the hardships of the depression and to trick a gullible public into thinking that Australia had its own ancient structure. The farmer may have hoped that publicity would bring crowds willing to pay to view the site.
This might also explain why in 1945 the same farmer ordered his son to bulldoze the site. Perhaps he was worried that with the end of World War Two the site would become the center of attention and that his lie would be discovered. It may also explain the subsequent silence. Perhaps friends of the farmer who worked in local government helped destroy evidence of the site to protect him from discovery and public humiliation.
The Extraterrestrial Theory.
Many people who reject the orthodox history taught in schools believe that in the past aliens visited earth and manipulated human technology and biology. A popular theory is that our planet was particularly attractive because of the gold it contains. Gold is extraterrestrial. It does not form on Earth and instead fell to Earth after having been formed in the final moments of a dying star as it exploded in a supernova.
|
There may be many reasons for why aliens may have wanted Earth's gold. Derrick Pitts, the Chief Astronomer and Planetarium Director for the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, provided a few. He offers an explanation that describes gold as an important element for space exploration and astronomy.
"Gold is an inert material, it doesn't react with anything. It is a wonderful conductor of electricity… and… a perfect reflector of infrared energy. You can use gold blankets to protect spacecraft against the intense heat of a star or any sort of heat source."
Advocates of the alien theory point to ancient texts and creation myths from places such as Mesopotamia that they claim show that humans were genetically engineered by extraterrestrials.
There are many variations of the alien intervention theory. An idea that grows in popularity is that our solar system hides a planet called Nibiru, whose long, elliptical orbit brings it near Earth once every 3,600 years or so. It is said that some 450,000 years ago, the inhabitants of Nibiru seeking reserves of gold in southeast Africa and came to Earth, landing in the Persian Gulf.
|
A number of academics have come forward with books and lectures. These include pseudo-historians (a derogatory term for those who speculate beyond what is taught in mainstream history classrooms). The most well known being, Zecharia Sitchin, along with Erich von Daniken, who has visited Australia's Stonehenge and Immanuel Velikovsky. They assume that some ancient myths are historical and scientific texts.
|
These three and others say that the Nibiruans genetically manipulated erect primates to become workers for the building of great ancient cities and to work the mines for gold. These alien masters are often named Anunnaki or the Enki and are said to be what the ancient Sumerians worshipped as gods.
The narrative is that these great cities, 30,000 years-ago, were destroyed by a cataclysmic deluge and that the Niburians then began to pass on their knowledge to us humans before returning to their hidden home planet in around 550 BC.
Michael Tellinger is a well known supporter of this theory. He is a South African who promotes his conclusion that 200,000-years-ago, well before the Sumerians and Egyptians, an advanced civilisation lived in Southern Africa, mining gold for their Anunnaki alien masters. They left behind more than 10 million stone circle ruins all connected to each other, that acted as a source of energy.
|
Tellinger tours the world giving lectures that explain that these stone circles harnessed the world's energy using sound waves. Tellinger cites the work of American inventor Edward Leedskalnin whom he says rediscovered some of the techniques to move stones by projecting sound using stone cones.
Tellinger writes that these stone circles as well as other ancient structures were built around the world as parts of a Earth-sized computer circuit board that drew energy from the Earth to perform seeming impossible tasks such as teleporting the mined gold to the planet of Niburu. |
Australia's Stonehenge, which consisted of two large stone circles at either end of its arrangement, might have been acted as a kind of central processing unit within this vast machine. This idea coincides with fact that Australia, second only to China, holds the largest gold resources on the planet. This is why Australia witnessed a gold rush in the 1850's which was partly responsible for its wealth.
The Vanished Stone Masons.
Some people believe that Australia's Stonehenge may have been built by an unknown people who had advanced skills of stonemasonry. This theory tells that the stone arrangements were constructed before the arrival of Australian Aboriginals who conquered them or who arrived well after the stone builders had disappeared.
This theory accepts conventional history that states Aboriginal people did not build with stone. It also may account for the remains of stone structures on the nearby Pacific islands that should have been impossible for known cultures to have made.
An earlier race of sophisticated stonemasons existing in Australia supports the Barrinean hypothesis. This was made in 1941 by the Anthropologist Norman Tindale, and the American anthropologist Joseph Birdsell. |
They published a paper suggesting that there were 12 Negrito tribes living on the coastal rainforest areas in Australia who were a race separate to the aboriginal race. The anthropologists suggested that these distinctively different tribes were the remains of a race which existed in Australia before the arrival of Aboriginals.
Many find this theory to be controversial since it could be used to argue against Aboriginal people's right to claim land or to Australia's Stonehenge.
